Steppin’ Out Spotlight: Youth Street

Zach and Annie, our new Youth Street Directors, share how an expansion at YWAM Newcastle will positively impact the youth in our community.

Since 2001, we have been reaching the young people of our city through the ministry of Youth Street. Throughout the week we are in local high schools; in lunch time programs, breakfast clubs, and running seminars on bullying. Then every Saturday youth from around the city join us for Youth Street Teams.

As we look to God for fresh vision in Youth Street, we’re seeing the cafe as a pivotal tool for it to continue to grow in influence. Plain and simple, a fully developed cafe provides a safe place for young people to “drop in” and hang out after school, etc. We will talk more about the specific needs of the cafe itself in our next Spotlight email.

Another new way Youth Street will utilise our cafe space is for a ministry for teen moms. We have made a connection with an organisation in the city and the plan is to invite teen moms and their children into our facility, build relationships, and begin mentoring.
