We are all created in God’s image, yet we are all different. We look, sound, and live differently. We have different interests and personalities. You are unique; there is no one like you. That means the purpose God has for you is also unique. You may be asking, “How can I find out what that could be?” Well, I would suggest you take time to really learn who God is and grow in your relationship with Him. Through that, He will reveal to you who He made you to be. How can you do that? One way is by doing a Discipleship Training School (DTS) through Youth With A Mission (YWAM). When I did mine, it changed the way I saw myself.
I was a huge people-pleaser growing up. I wanted everyone to like me and what I was doing. When I finished high school and was leaving for college, just like all my friends, I realized that I didn’t like my plan. So, I decided to stay with my family and work instead. However, I wasn’t happy at home. That’s when I turned to God to see what He wanted me to do.
Turning to God opened a new door for me.
He took me out of my comfort zone. Taking me away from my family and friends, but also, away from the false identity that I had lived with for so long. I could focus on God and learn more about Him. And, in the process, I found the identity that God had for me.
There was so much freedom in leaving a place I called home and leaving my old self behind. I was looking forward to moving to a new place and having what felt like a fresh start. God could come in and lead me down the path He had for me. He has taken me to places I never imagined going to. I could grow and take steps that brought me closer to who I really am.
Believing the identity God had for me took time didn’t just happen overnight.
However, I still found myself worrying about what people thought of me. I learned that I couldn’t focus on making people happy if it was causing me to stress. I had to find peace and this is a journey that I wouldn’t be able to go on without God.
As I continue on this journey, I am learning more about God each day. He is revealing more of the purpose He has given me and I just need take it one step at a time and stay focused on Him.
If you relate at all with this, I recommend prayerfully considering a YWAM DTS. This would be a great place to start. Remember that you are unique and your path will be different from others.
In your journey, be focused on God and the purpose He has given you.
