In the last Devotional Corner, we talked about how Peter desired to go to Jesus on the water. Something I’ve missed when reading this story over the years is how Jesus responds to Peter’s request with an invitation and says “Come.” I’ve personally focused more on how much courage it must have taken Peter, but now I think more of him responding to an invitation from the Son of God who was standing right there.
We don’t do things alone.
Jesus always calls us to Himself. He stirs desires, we cry out to Him, and He invites us to take a step towards Him. So often I have to fight feeling alone when taking a risk, but this story gives an image we can hold on to—we are stepping towards Jesus at His invitation. Peter took a scary step, but he did so towards the creator of the universe.
Consider the list of desires you wrote out before.
Picture Jesus in front of you, inviting you to step out into one of those things.
You’re not stepping out alone, rather, you’re stepping towards Jesus and I’m so thankful that’s how it works. Let that picture bring us courage!
