In Matthew 14, there is an interesting story where after a long day of ministry, Jesus put the disciples in a boat and had them start crossing to the other side of a lake. Later on, Jesus joined up with them by walking to them on the water. When they saw Him approaching the boat they were afraid, but Peter wanted to get out and join Jesus. He said, “Lord, if it’s you, tell me to come to you on the water.”
Peter got out of the boat and started to walk on the water towards Jesus because he had a desire to! God made us with desires in our hearts that stir us to cry out to Him, even for sometimes scary things (like walking on water in the night). There are so many reasons we don’t pay attention to the stirrings in our hearts—they seem too hard, too impractical, we are too afraid—whatever the reason, let’s take note of what’s in our hearts! Stepping out so often starts with desire.
Take a moment and write down some desires God has been stirring, even the scary ones.
