This is a recent story from our Summer Classic DTS outreach team in Fiji right now. It is from the village of Toge. Their team were the first missionaries who had ever been into this village.
There were several programs that we put on where we were able to share testimonies, dramas, and have some time for prayer with the villagers. It was great getting to know them and being able to live their culture for a week.
I got the privilege of building a very strong relationship with a 17 year old girl named Nasa. She was always smiling. Nasa spoke with me on how much she loved the Lord and wished her family would come to know Christ as well. “I want to be like you”, she said. She mentioned that she had wanted to be a missionary but didn’t think it was possible. She was afraid of the “curse” that might overtake her village if she left. I could tell through our worship time and through speaking with her how on-fire for God she was. I was given the opportunity to pray for Nasa the night before we left. I shared Joshua 1:9 with her. “Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid;
do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” We prayed for her family and for her future. Before I left, she gave me the ring she was wearing and asked me to keep it. I told her that I would put it on a chain and wear it around my neck. There were tears and hugs and then we said our good byes.
This was just one of MANY stories that all 9 of us have. There were so many bonds formed, bonds that we will remember. The village of Toge holds a special place in my heart! We were
the first group of missionaries to go to their village
, and it is my prayer that we wouldn’t be the last. I am so glad that we had this chance to go to Toge and speak hope and love into each and everyone of their lives.
