Love as our weapon.

This is a recent blog post by one of our training staff:
As missionaries, we often travel, and most of the time it is to rather strange and exciting places. We
see God do amazing things over there and it can be all too easy to think that is where God wants
to move. In our minds it’s often easy to think that God does not move in the same way on our own
doorstep. Let’s change that.

Last night, I was walking down the street of where I live with my brother, and we were approached
by two guys shouting some rather threatening things. We thought nothing of it, and kept walking,
thinking that if we ignored them, they would just go away……….What happens if they do not? What happens if they they follow you down the street, hold you up and demand your money, or they will hurt you? What happens in that situation? The power of God is released.

They demanded our money, and we demanded that they know Christ. They came to us in anger, but found love waiting for them. I tell you it was not what they were expecting. Like when people confronted Jesus, looking to trap him in an argument and put him to death. He would respond in such a way as to leave the crowd speechless and totally disarmed. When you react according to your heavenly nature, and not the worldly nature, it confounds people. These guys did not know what to do with two people that weren’t scared, that weren’t angry, that did not respond with violence, or let themselves be pushed over, but instead responded with the kindness of God, and showed an interest in their hearts. That re-payed evil with good, hate with love.

We invited them to have some food with us, and to simply talk. 45 minutes later, these guys were
considering Christ. They had never before heard of the grace of God, they had never heard that God
WANTED them. Unfortunately, they had to go home at that point, but they promised to contact us
to talk more. God always makes a way, and “those who trust in Him will never be put to shame” (Romans 10:11). In that situation, we could have responded as the world demands we should. With fists, with anger, with violence and hate.

There is another way, a way that will release the power of heaven to earth and see lives changed,
see chains broken, and see hope restored in those who have no hope. We are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus! Let us together hold on to that assurance, and bring heaven to earth in our lives and the lives of those around us. Let us respond in love, and see the schemes of the enemy turned around and God’s plan fulfilled because of it.
