My name is Emily Roberts, and I am leading the 2011 Creative DTS at YWAM Newcastle. During my own DTS in 2007, God grew me so much in the areas of art and music and challenged me constantly to be operating in creativity. This was not what I was expecting from a Discipleship Training School at all, but looking back I can see that for me, it was the natural result of growing in relationship with my Creator and being encouraged to step out more and more in the areas God has called me to. I cannot even explain how excited I am to be leading a DTS that is designed for people with a desire to connect with God and others using the arts and a desire to use their creative giftings to serve God in missions!
During the school, we will be hearing from speakers from all over the place, many of whom have a background using the arts in missions, on topics such as the “Nature and Character of God”, “Spiritual Warfare”, and “Missions”, to name a few. The school will also include creative workshops that will help us all develop our skills in the various creative arts and open our eyes to how we can use the things we already love to serve God and share His love. While we are learning and growing, we will also have plenty of opportunities to reach out to the youth of our city using music, dance, drama and more.
After three months of lectures, we will be heading to Latvia on outreach! This outreach will focus heavily on using both performing arts and creative media to raise awareness about social injustices in Eastern Europe, as well as build relationship with people and show them who God really is.
Are you feeling challenged to step out and use your Creativity to make disciples of all nations? If so, pray about joining us here in Newcastle this July! For more information, you can view the Creative DTS page here.
