Above January Summer Plus DTS Students Marleen, Sarah and author, Taylor
The January Summer Plus DTS is underway, now hearing from John Childers on Bible Study during their 10th week of lectures and only a few weeks away from outreach. Students have grown accustomed to life around Lewis House, our housing, and are enjoying the community that comes with doing a DTS. Below is an article from one of our students, Taylor Tefft (Minnesota, USA), about her experience with our community at YWAM Newcastle.
“Already in my tenth week of DTS, my time at Lewis House seems to have flown by. Leaving for outreach in less than three weeks seems hardly real but so exciting. The community I’ve encountered here has been unlike any other in my life, and without it, I definitely wouldn’t have grown in such crazy ways.
There is always something going on in Lewis House. In fact, there is usually at least ten different things happening at once. As I sit on the front porch and type, there are people making late night snacks in the kitchen, playing cards in the dining room, watching a movie in the hub, and having quiet times in their rooms. While these things might seem like normal, everyday activities, I have found that in my weeks here, God has slowly changed me through them. It is through these normal times spent with each other that we have all grown in trust and in love for one another. I look around and see people I met only two months ago, who now know me better than some people I have known for years. At any given time I can walk up to almost anyone and have a good talk, ask for prayer, or just be encouraged about what God is doing in my life. I constantly feel encouraged to respond to my lectures or quiet times, and the staff are always willing and excited to share their own experiences. There is something so awesome about a community of believers living for God together, and I cannot believe how blessed I am to be a part of it.
Being a part of the crazy, loving, and constantly busy community at YWAM Newcastle has changed the way I look at friendships. I have seen how God really wants us to live with each other. Not just physically living together but always pushing each other to know Him more and to make Him known. I cannot imagine my life without the people here, and I am so excited to be able to have these kinds of relationships back home and wherever else God leads me. I wish that everyone could have the experience of doing a DTS because it is practically impossible to not fall in love with God when there are so many people around you who are actively pursuing Him. Being here has completely shattered the complacency in my life and in my relationships. After the real love and community I have experienced I know God has changed the way I see those around me and how I interact with them. I am so blessed to have this international family in Christ, and I cannot wait to see what He does through us!”
