Do you want to take stunning photos on your iPhone? Our YWAM Newcastle Creative Team produced this quick video explaining how you too, can be a great smart phone photographer. For a more in-depth explanation of these tips check out the post below.

1. Clean the lens

No one likes fingerprints on the lens! Cleaning the lens will prevent you from taking hazy photos.

2. Rule of thirds

The basic principle is to imagine your photograph divided into thirds, both horizontally and vertically. Using the grid setting on your smart phone is ideal and can help you with the composition of your photograph. Placing the horizon line or other interesting objects on the intersecting lines is what you want to aim for.

3. Keep the horizon level

The horizon is your best friend when it comes to composition! It is a natural level for your photos and is especially useful when shooting landscapes.

4. Use 2 hands (especially in low light)

Most smart phones cameras have automatic settings which, in low light, will decrease the speed of the shutter to give you a brighter photo. Holding your phone with two hands will give you extra stability while shooting and can increase the sharpness of your photo.

5. Download an app to edit your photos

Giving your photos a look that is more pleasing to the eye is quite easy! Pulling the highlights down, lifting the shadows and adding a little saturation can take your photos to the next level!

Find an app that best suits you and have fun editing.

6. Share

The platforms for sharing your art are virtually endless! Facebook, Instagram, Tumblr, Pinterest and blogs – just to name a few. Photos are a powerful form of communication, and when composed well, will go a long way in telling your story, as well as the story of others. Next time you pull out your smart phone keep these tips in mind, and enjoy the opportunities that we have at our fingertips.
