Fundraising is an essential part of being a missionary with YWAM. It is often how we are able to live and meet our day by day needs. As we are doing this we are basically asking people to come along side us and support us as we are going out into the mission field to tell people about Jesus. I have found this to be pretty daunting the first couple of times that I needed to fundraise, but over the past few years of being a missionary I have learned a trick or two. Here are 4 tips I have learned about fundraising.
1. Let people know what you are doing.
Let you family, your friends, your neighbors, and your church family know what you are planning on doing. This is vital with fundraising. If you share your vision and what your plans are, it will help them to catch your vision and help support you. Ask them out to lunch or to grab a cup of coffee as you’re sharing your vision.
2. Write letters
When we write letters we think of the days when people hand wrote letters. Let me be the first to tell you how times have changed. The first support letter I ever wrote was hand written, but with modern technology we are able to write faster and clear then ever before. One of the main things is to make sure you hit the key points in your support letter. Things like where you are going and when you are going.
3. Set up a fundraising web page.
These days the Internet is bursting with people that want to help other people. One of the main websites that I have used in the past is Gofundme. You can attach your PayPal or your debit card right to this website. Another reason why this is an excellent website is because you can set up a date when you are getting ready to leave, you can update the page, and it is really easy to use. Also if you have a smartphone the app makes it that much easier. Though there are lots of other options out there worth trying.
4. Trust God with finances.
My last tip is to trust God with your finances. This seems like a very Cliche thing to be saying coming from someone that’s in the mission field, but it is so important to anyone. As a missionary this is something that I have to constantly be doing. It is kind of scary the first few times you do it, but money is just a tool that God has given us.
Thank you for taking the time to read this blog post. I pray that as you’re reading this post that God will help you raise whatever support you are trying to raise.
