“Where are you girls off to?” the woman beside me on the train asked. We were on our way to the Sydney airport, brimming with excitement and anticipation for the next two months of traveling.
When we told the woman that we were going to Bangladesh, India, and Nepal through YWAM, she smiled widely.
“I’m a Christian too,” she explained to us.
She went on to tell us about her life in the church, even telling us that at one point she was a nun! Wisdom for our outreach began to flow out of her mouth, and my friend and I looked at each other with wonder.
As the train ride progressed, another woman came and sat by us. We learned that she was from India, and
she told us that she felt very lonely since moving to Australia.
“Would you like to have a friend that you can talk to at any time?” asked the woman beside us. “His name is Jesus, and He wants to live in your heart and be your friend forever!”
Suddenly my new friend and I were leading this woman in a prayer to accept Jesus into her heart
so that she would never be lonely again. After we were finished, the woman seemed more comfortable and began expressing concern for her daughters. We began to pray for her daughters and for everything else the woman told us. By the time the train arrived in Sydney, we had made two new friends and led one to the Lord!
Who would have guessed that a three hour train ride to the airport before our outreach officially began would lead to an incredible Jesus encounter?
