Contagious Joy – Outreach Update

By YWAM Newcastle on January 14, 2015 in Discipleship Training Schools, Outreach, Training

One of our team’s favorite ministries is going into the slum by the apartment where we’re living. Many of the people there have never heard the gospel and the majority of them are Hindu. Going into that slum is literally bringing God’s light into darkness.

Yesterday we went to the slum to have a program for the families living there. We started out by going on a prayer walk around the streets and inviting people to join us for the gathering. We got quite a large crowd of kids, women, and men gathered in the main open area. The kids were all in the middle staring at us with their huge eyes and bright smiles. We got to sing songs with them about how Jesus loves them. One girl on our team shared a testimony and another shared a short message. It was great to engage with the kids and see them come to life with us!

The ministry part was great, but my favorite part was simply playing with the kids before and after. Spinning them around, tickling them, hugging them. The kids already have joy, we just bring Jesus’ supernatural joy. The joy that is so pure, deep, and contagious. Even the men and women watching were smiling and laughing. When we walked in, the slum seemed lifeless. But when we left, the children were singing and dancing and the slum had new life!

John 8:12 – “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
