It was a very sunny day as we were going to a slum with our contacts. As we arrived, we walked into the slum and gathered a crowd of people. We shared the gospel, sang kid songs, passed out gospel tracks, and couldn’t get the Bibles out of our hands fast enough! Afterwards, we kept walking deeper into the slum and continued talking to people. We sat outside a home of Christians and enough people gathered around us that we started singing worship songs. Monica, one of the team members, got up and preached the gospel message. She invited anyone who wanted to know more or had questions to come find us.
We went into the family’s home shortly after and talked, encouraged them, and prayed for them. We were about to leave because it was around their dinner time, but one of the guys said there was fresh samosa cooking outside so we stayed a little longer. As we were sitting there eating and talking, a guy walked in and started chatting with our hosts. We found out he was standing outside earlier when Monica shared.
He mentioned how hard it was for this area to not have more than one god because of the Hindu influence. As he shared, I felt God remind me of the story of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. I told him their story about how they turned from other gods to worship the one true living God. Monica also shared about how God is a jealous God, how he desires a father son relationship with us, and how it breaks His heart when He sees us go after other things (other gods). I felt God tell me to ask our translator if the young man was ready to believe in Jesus and he said yes!!! So I slipped forward on the bed looked in his eyes and said, “This means getting rid of all your other Gods, letting go of your past, and fully giving your life to the one true living God!” He nodded his head and said okay. We prayed with him and the family before leaving. God is doing awesome things here and we’re excited for more!
