That Time I Told A Famous Soccer Player About Jesus – Staff Blog

A couple of weeks ago, YWAM Newcastle got to host The School of The Circuit Riders. They shared with us their heart for a revival of Love and how simple  the Gospel is to share in our current generation. The brief time we had with them gave me a deeper realisation of my freedom and power in Jesus to share this very good news that I carry.

It was a warm sunny day and I was in charge of leading a few evangelism teams on the beach in Newcastle to share the gospel. As I was waiting for my second team to arrive, a man on a bench caught my eye. I walked right up to him and asked him if I could sit down. He kindly said ‘yes’ and we started to talk about our stories and what we were doing in Australia. I asked him if he had ever heard of the gospel and to my honest surprise, he said no. I was able to bring clarity to the gospel and share it with a passion God had newly renewed in me that week. He told me that Jesus sounded like someone he was needing at that time. It ended at that, or so I thought.

Going home and telling people that story I mentioned his name and that he plays for our local Newcastle team. A friend of mine about flew through the roof when he found out that this man is actually a very famous soccer player from the UK. He played in the England World Cup and more. I was in such awe that Jesus pursued this man through a young lady who had no idea “who he was.” Simply Jesus pursuing EVERY single one of His children.

The love of God is heavy for this individual and now He knows the True Love of God.
